First let me introduce you to Monte 

The greatest Great Dane in the world!

Monte is a 9 year old Great Dane and a joy to my life. I couldn't ask for a better friend to have fun with. I know he loves me too, he gives me hugs and makes each day special for me.

Monte and I live in San Jose, California and enjoy traveling around and seeing all that is new and really enjoy meeting people and other animals on our small trips.

I have a great time with him and love him very much. I take a walk every day with him after work. He gives me a few minutes of rest when I get home and then he hands me his leash.

I have to admit I did not know a lot of people that lived down the street, but since I have been walking 2-4 miles a day I have gotten to know a lot of them. The kids really like to come over and give him a hug. He is really loving and really likes it when people give him attention. Sometimes when we go by shopping centers he will look at someone and act like "aren't you going to pet me". I have noticed that the kids look at him and have no fear and want to pet him, the parents a lot of times look at him and his size and have a heart attack as their kids run over. I enjoy showing people that Great Danes are the most loving dogs in the world. I think Monte has kissed about a 1000 people as these people come over and start to hug him. They can't believe how sweet he is.

Monte runs like a horse. I learned the hard way last year that you have to train them to run along with you at your pace. I had wrapped the leash around my hand so he wouldn't get away and when I jerked back he was going too fast he bolted forward and off my feet I went. I looked like one of those old cartoons where the people are flying behind their dog. Needless to say I was sore for about 6 months with a shoulder that came out of joint and cuts and bruises from when I hit the ground. I don't blame him it was my stupid fault, and I learned the hard way.

Monte is really fun to watch when he runs, he is really fast. When I take him to the park and he starts to run, people turn and watch him. He is very proud looking when he runs and looks likes he really enjoys going all out as he runs.

Monte is very alert and watches out for my wife and I no matter where we go. We go for hikes in the area and he is always on the look out for some thing different that may hurt or bother us.

The one thing that I think is different about him is he has a big fascination with little tiny dogs. He meets these little dogs that are a few inches high and his butt shakes around like there  is no end and his tail wiggles all around.

This is my loving wife Emma with Monte. Emma and I as of August 2nd will be married 25 years. I think I love her now more than I did when we first got married. I couldn't of asked for anyone better to spend my life with. I will be writing a page on Emma and her great artistic projects she works on.

I wanted you to see something that when I first saw it was very funny.

Monte is so big he sits down on the couch just like you or me.

Usually though Monte waits until my wife sits at one end of the couch to read her book and Monte comes up and places his head on her lap and takes up the rest of the couch. A real couch potato!

He does take his share of naps so he can make the most of the times we are together.

I love Great Danes and I  really love my Monte.

I was told when I got Monte that Great Danes did not live as long as many dogs. I decided then that Monte was going to have the best life I could give him. I take him everyplace with me and I give him a hug every time that I can. You know it really makes we feel good when Monte, my wife and I get into our jeep and Monte sits  in the back and hangs his head up the middle rest in the front and sits and looks excited that he is with us and  more important that he is seeing something new!

I feel great warmth when in the evening and Monte comes over and gives me a hug. He actually comes up and presses his head against my cheek. At times he actually takes his front paw and presses against me so he hugs me a little harder.

When ever Monte and I walk someplace people always has a million questions. The kids love him and I like it that kids run over at a park or on the street and ask if it is ok to pet my dog. Usually they are petting him before I can say yes. The adults are a little different, either they think he is great or they are afraid of him. All I can say to you, look at his face on the pictures on these pages and tell me how anyone could think there is a bad bone in his body. Actually Great Danes are the most mellow of the dogs and I think the most loving.

Monte and I wanted to say we are really sorry for the troubles in the world today. I guess we look at the world through rose colored glasses. We see a lot as we make our journeys but we have always looked at the beauty we see. I am sorry but even though there are many cultures that make up the bay area we have always just thought of them as someone to meet and to learn from. Neither Monte or me have a violent bone in our bodies. I have to admit it bothers me that people can not live together in peace. I believe that by helping one another along, the world would be a lot better place to live. Maybe everyone in the world should wear rose colored glasses and smile with their hearts.
